James Fletcher was born and raised in upstate N.Y and has lived in Asheboro N.C. for the last 15 yrs. He learnt the basics to knapping at a local community college [10 classes 2.5 hrs long] about 3 yrs ago but doesn't really have a favorite rock as of yet as he lives in a rock poor area, so anything that works good that he can get a hold of is his favorite at the time. This is the same for his favorite style. He says, "Just being able to make something that looks decent tickles me to death. I strive to someday be able to make the killer points like clovis, folsom, daltons, hardaways, pinetrees, etc.....I want to make them all and be good at it. Especially out of the native rock to the area , rhyolite......which is some super tough stuff." Currently he is a machinist and makes a lot of his own tools and has tried everything from traditional to the modern tools that he makes. Most his work is a mixture, some slabs some rocks. Other hobbies include his wife and 2 children, collecting real artifacts, building award winning plastic models, welding and machining.
